Testing Until September: An Elegant Script Font for Real Branding

The cursor hovered over a blank brand board. I was sketching a visual identity for a small, artisan pottery studio. The mood was earthy, tactile, and intentionally imperfect. My client wanted a look that felt crafted, not manufactured. I had a solid, quiet serif ready for body text, but I needed that singular element—a script font for the logo and accent text—that would convey the human hand behind the work. After a few underwhelming tries with overly rigid or florid scripts, I landed on Until September.

From the first typed word, Until September presented itself as an elegant script with a genuine handmade calligraphy style. It wasn't trying to be vintage or overtly romantic; it felt contemporary and confident. The letterforms have a natural flow, with subtle variations in stroke weight that mimic the pressure of a real pen. This isn't a font that shouts; it speaks with a calm, artistic authority. Its personality is one of refined creativity, perfect for brands that value craftsmanship and a personal touch.

Where Until September Shines in a Brand System

In my pottery studio project, I tested Until September across the entire visual system. On the logo draft, used for the studio's name, it provided an immediate sense of identity. The connected letters created a cohesive, memorable mark without feeling too delicate. Placed on a packaging mockup for a ceramic mug box, the font as a product label header looked beautifully organic against the textured paper stock. It translated seamlessly to digital spaces, too. In a website header mockup, it commanded attention without overwhelming the serene photography, and on social media layout templates for Instagram, it gave quotes and promotional text a distinctive, branded feel.

This font excels as a display typeface. It’s ideal for logos, headlines, product names, and short, impactful phrases on brand assets. On a business card, the studio name printed with Until September became the focal point, establishing visual hierarchy instantly. Its elegance boosts brand perception, suggesting quality, attention to detail, and a story behind the product. For a boutique, a creative studio, a bakery, or a skincare line—any brand where authenticity and artistry are key—Until September can become that consistent, recognizable thread across packaging, editorial design, and commercial materials.

A Few Realistic Observations and Considerations

Like any script font, Until September has its optimal uses and its limits. In my testing, readability remained strong at larger sizes, but I would not recommend it for long body text, dense paragraphs, or any text at very small sizes. Its charm lies in its details, which vanish when scaled down. A formal corporate report or a technical manual would not be suitable projects. This is a font for expression, not for exhaustive information.

It also performs best when given space to breathe. On a tight, crowded layout, its graceful strokes can get lost. I found it looked particularly stunning on a clean, minimalist shop sign mockup and on a homepage hero section with plenty of negative space around it. Before committing it to final client work, I always recommend designers test it in their specific contexts: print a sample at the actual size, view it on different device screens, and see how it interacts with your imagery and other type.

Pairing Until September with Other Typefaces

A script font rarely lives alone in a brand system. For my pottery brand, I paired Until September with a sturdy, geometric sans serif for all supporting information—addresses, descriptions, prices. This contrast worked beautifully: the script provided warmth and personality, while the sans serif offered clarity and structure. It could also harmonize well with a simple, modern serif for longer text blocks. The key is to choose a partner font that is clean and unobtrusive, allowing Until September to be the decorative accent. Avoid pairing it with another ornate script or handwritten font; that creates visual competition rather than complement.

If Until September includes stylistic alternates, ligatures, or swashes—common in premium script fonts—these can be wonderful tools for adding customization to a logo or a special headline, making the type feel even more uniquely tailored to the brand.

Practical Steps for Professional Use

For designers and entrepreneurs, a font is a tool, and understanding its licensing is crucial. Before using Until September in any client work, permanent brand identity, packaging, merchandise, or digital products, check its commercial license. Most font purchases from reputable sites include a standard commercial license, but confirm it covers your intended applications—especially if you’re creating templates for sale or using it in print-on-demand products. Also, verify its file formats and webfont availability if you need it for a live website; this ensures a smooth transition from your mockups to the final, functional design.

Ultimately, my test with Until September was a success. It delivered the handmade elegance the project required without sacrificing modern professionalism. It moved from a logo sketch to a cohesive brand board with ease, proving its versatility across print and digital mediums. For your next branding project that calls for a touch of crafted sophistication, Until September is a compelling choice worth exploring on your own blank canvas.
